Cancellation of the Parish Council Meeting 15th April 2021

It is with sadness that Flaxton Parish Council have learned of the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and we extend heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and members of the Royal Family.

Due to the death of HRH Prince Philip and the requirements of the Local Government Act 1972 in the convening of lawful meetings, the Parish Council Meeting which was planned to take place on Thursday 15th April 2021 at 7.00pm remotely via Zoom has been cancelled.

This is due to there being an official period of mourning for eight days set out in the government guidance; lasting until 8am on 18 April 2021

A future date will be published to transact the planned business from this meeting when we are permitted to do so.

North Yorkshire Community Messaging – Fake Police Officers

Once again, here in North Yorkshire we’ve had a surge in reports of a phone scam where an individual receives a call purporting to be from a police officer who has their son/daughter/nephew/niece/grandchild in custody in possession of their bank card.

The caller tells the individual to attend the bank and draw out a significant amount of cash which will be picked up by a ‘courier’ and held in a safe place.

Of course the cash won’t be safe and will be going straight into the scammers’ pockets.

Let’s stop these scammers in their tracks and make sure no one falls for their manipulative tactics. Please share this message with your friends, family and networks to help them all stay vigilant for these scam calls.

Remember, the police or your bank will never call and ask you to move, pay or transfer money.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.

Please be on your guard against callers asking where delivery drivers leave parcels when you’re not at home. We’ve had reports of van driver claiming to be from Amazon & asking residents where their parcels are left. Please don’t pass any info to cold callers.

Parish Precept 2021/2022

The Parish Council would like to apologise for an error on this year’s Parish Precept submission which has caused an unintended increase in the Flaxton Parish element of this year’s Council Tax bill.

In December 2020, when considering the budget for the forthcoming year, the Parish Council resolved to hold the Parish Precept at the 2020/2021 level i.e., £3,290.  However, when completing the Precept Request Form a transposition error was made and £3,920 was requested instead of the intended £3,290 resulting in the unintended £630 increase.

In practice, this has increased Council Tax bills for Band G properties by around £8.00 and other Bands less. Band D is around £4.80.

We would like to assure residents that the £630 will be deducted from the 2022/23 Precept Request.  The starting position for next year’s budget and Precept Request will therefore be £2,660, before the need for any additional expenditure is considered.
