You will have noticed that work has been ongoing to clear the overgrowth from the edges of the pavements through Flaxton. This was a key project identified by the Village Plan.
The work to date has been carried out by a team from The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) who are based in York.
The team will return at around 10:00 am on Wednesday 3rd May 2023 with the aim of clearing the remainder of the path from the Kell up to Oak Busk Lane. This is a particularly overgrown section of pavement so we anticipate that there will be a significant amount of turf and spoil removed.
The aim is to use the turf and spoil to repair sections of the common that have been damaged by passing and parked vehicles.
The Flaxton Environment Group is seeking volunteers to help with the commons repair work, ideally on Wednesday.
If you can give some of your time to help please contact Steve Axford on 01904-468251 or via his email .
Alternatively, please just ‘turn up’ on the day.
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
As a footnote we are also looking at options for improving the section of footpath from Oak Busk Lane to the Level Crossing.
Thank you to everyone who has already replied for The King’s Picnic.
If anyone hasn’t replied but is planning to come, please reply or text @nicola 07860 612622 or register on the Parish Website King’s Picnic Reply Form – Flaxton Parish Council (flaxtonpc.org.uk) We do need to know numbers for the marquee, tables and chairs. If you don’t reply please be prepared to bring your own chair.
An organisation called Trust Conservation Volunteers (TCV) will be carrying out work on the footpath through the village today (Tuesday), Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday this week. The aim is to restore the footpath to its original width, to make it easier to walk on and use a pushchair or wheelchair. TCV will do as much of the path as they can manage in the 4 days and the Parish Council are investigating ways to cover any remaining work required. The TCV work is being funded by a grant from the former Ryedale District Council.
