Ryedale District Council – Consultation on Submitted Sites

We have been asked by Ryedale District Council to display this poster regarding the list of sites that have been submitted for consideration of a range of development types. Ryedale District Council has made no decisions on these sites and they have no planning status (unless they are already allocations in the Ryedale Plan – and there are a very small number of these sites).

The submitted sites including three in Flaxton can be viewed on the Ryedale District Council Website – List of Submitted Sites.

Neighbourhood Watch – Preventing On-line Fraud Event 23rd November 2021

Note from Andy Fox – Financial Abuse Safeguarding Officer for North Yorkshire

Dear All,

My name is Andy Fox and I am the Financial Abuse Safeguarding Officer attached to the Economic Crime Unit at North Yorkshire Police.

Last year (November 2020) with the country in lockdown, I organised an online event using Microsoft Teams in partnership with North Yorkshire Trading Standards and experts from the cyber world advising people on fraud, in particular online shopping fraud. I know many of you will be increasing your online shopping in the run up to Christmas. With many retailers already stating they may suffer supply issues, demand for goods online is likely to be extremely high. Fraudsters are aware of this and I do expect to see a rise in online fraud over the next couple of months. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are now established retail events which will see North Yorkshire residents spend millions of pounds online.

This event was extremely popular and has been one of a number of online events we have hosted. In order to further advise residents on fraud, North Yorkshire Police are hosting another online event in partnership with North Yorkshire Trading Standards and cyber experts which will be your opportunity to learn about the types of online shopping fraud currently operating, how to spot them and how to stay safe.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions to a panel of experts from North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Trading Standards

My primary role in the unit is to visit victims of fraud and offer safeguarding advice in order to reduce the likelihood of that person becoming a repeat victim. I often see first-hand the misery that being such a victim of fraud can bring.

I am keen for these events to continue and I have organised this online event.  This will be conducted over Microsoft Teams. Do not worry if you do not have Teams installed on your computer. All you require to join the meeting is a decent internet connection. All attendees will be sent a link and you will join the meeting through your web browser. Full details will be circulated to all those attending prior to the event.

This is the second of these types of events I have organised. The first one back in September was well attended and the feedback was very positive.

This online event will take place on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 from 7pm and will finish approx 9pm.

If you wish to attend please click on the link below. This will register your interest on a platform called Eventbrite. Once you have registered you will be sent a link to the event a few days prior to the event taking place.

A64 – Evening and Overnight Closures from 1st November to 4th December 2021

A64 Barr Lane to Claxton carriageway surfacing – essential maintenance work

Find below text from a further email from Hazel Birdsall, Communications Manager, A-one+ on behalf of National Highways regarding overnight A64 closures affecting Flaxton residents.

A-one+ working on behalf of National Highways (formally Highways England) is carrying out surfacing work on the A64 Barr Lane to Claxton to provide drivers with smoother and safer journeys.

What’s happening and when?

We’re carrying out essential maintenance work on the A64 Barr Lane to Claxton and part of Scotchman Lane. The work includes resurfacing the carriageway, renewing the high-friction surfacing and installing new road markings and studs.

We plan to start work on Monday 1 November and aim to complete by Friday 4 December.  We cannot complete this work in bad weather. In the event of any delays, we will keep customers and residents updated about changes on our website, through social media and through signs on the network.

Closures and restrictions

To carry out this work safely we will close the A64 in both directions between Barr Lane and Claxton overnight from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday.  A fully signed diversion will be in place for A64 traffic which has been agreed in advance with the police and local authority. The diversion route has been planned to consider the needs of local communities and is of a similar standard to the A64. Consequently, it will extend journey times considerably – we advise customers to allow more time and plan their journeys in advance.

Access to residential and commercial properties located within the closed section of road will always be maintained. We do however ask these people to plan their journeys to avoid the closures wherever possible. It is also important to follow the instructions of our site staff to ensure your and our workforce’s safety. If you live outside the closure, you will not be able to use the A64 between the closure points and we therefore request that you use alternative routes.

Extra information

We are aware that York City Council is carrying out work on Towthorpe Moor Lane and we have liaised with the council (York City) to minimise disruption to road users.

Some of the work we will carry out will be noisy. We will try and carry out the noisiest part of the work before 11pm where we can, but there will be noise overnight. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and aim to complete the work as soon as we can to minimise any disruption.

Consultation – A64 between Hopgrove and Barton-le-Willows

Letter from National Highways

We have received a letter dated from National Highways regarding the A64 between the Hopgrove junction and Barton-le-Willows inviting feedback on issues relating to this section of the A64.

There is also advance notice of road works between Claxton and Barr Lane (Stockton on the Forest) taking place between 1st November 2021 and 4th December 2021.

Letter Content

Dear Parish Clerk,

I am writing to introduce myself and provide you with a few updates on the work we are doing to develop the A64 between Hopgrove junction and Barton-le-Willows. The A64 Hopgrove Scheme is one of 32 pipeline schemes the government has asked National Highways to consider as part of their third Road Investment Strategy (RIS3). There is no commitment from government to develop this scheme beyond this current stage. However, we’re currently developing options by engaging with our stakeholders and carrying out more research.

We’d like your help gathering feedback.

Between Monday 25th October and Sunday 21st November 2021, National Highways will be asking the public to provide their feedback about the A64 between Hopgrove junction and Barton-le-Willows.

Feedback can be provided on a range of issues affecting the route. We will also seek to understand how any future changes to the road could improve livelihoods and quality of life, and help to address concerns about congestion, environmental issues, and safety.

The feedback we get from this engagement with our customers will help us better understand the local context and current issues around the A64 and help us present a case for future improvement to the Department for Transport.

To encourage our customers to contribute their views, a press release will be issued to the local media on Monday and we’ll also be using social media, putting up posters and sending postcards to approximately 10,000 households and businesses near the route, including residents in your parish. I’d be grateful if you could share this letter and poster with your colleagues and residents as we are keen to include the views of as many stakeholders as possible. A copy of the poster and postcard are attached.

To access the feedback form, visit our website at:

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us at or call us on 0300 123 5000.
