Update from Flaxton Social

Update from Flaxton Social

As you may know Flaxton Social came to be following the feedback from the Village Plan. As a small group of volunteers, we have enjoyed organising a variety of events and have tried to cater for a wide range of tastes. To date we’ve held: –

  • Ceilidh and Hog Roast
  • 2 Village Shows
  • Afternoon Tea and Morning Coffee
  • The Antiques Roadshow
  • Bingo Night
  • Pub Quiz at the Thompsons
  • The King’s Coronation picnic
  • Curry Night
  • September Song and Supper
  • Lasagne Night at the Thompsons
  • The Big Butty Breakfast
  • The Easter Egg Hunt with tea and cakes

Our objective was not to raise funds but to bring the village together. These social interactions are the very fabric of village life, and we are delighted to play our part.

However, now that we have a firm proposal for a new village hall, we have an opportunity not only to continue bringing people together but also to help raise the funds to build it.

So, in future we will be building into each event a fundraising element so we can make a contribution to the new village hall following each event.

We would welcome more volunteers, this could be on an ad hoc event by event basis or as a full-time member of the team. Please get in touch with Sheelagh by email if you can help.

If you haven’t been to any of the events yet, why not come along and try our next one? You’ll probably bump into your neighbours, have a good chat and there’s usually a cuppa or a glass of something stronger too. Thanks to all of you who are regulars.

It’s hard to think of a better way to raise funds for our new village hall than by socialising with our friends and neighbours!

Rural Services Network – Support for All Consultation

The Rural Services Network

The Rural Services Network (RSN) is a Special Interest Group of the Local Government Association.

They are a membership organisation and work on behalf of members (who include North Yorkshire Council) as the national champion for rural services. They support member organisations through the sharing of best practice and rural expertise, and advocate on their behalf to ensure that the rural voice is raised up the agenda with parliamentarians and decision makers.

The RSN website can be found here:  https://www.rsnonline.org.uk/

Delivering for All Survey

The RSN has launched a major new national survey to capture rural voices across England. If you live in a village, small town, hamlet or isolated rural area, your views matter.  You can access the Delivering for All Survey,  a landmark research project capturing the realities of rural life across England.

This national survey takes just 8–10 minutes and covers the issues that matter most: housing, healthcare, transport, digital connectivity, planning, and net zero priorities. The responses will directly inform RSN’s work with Government, MPs, and Select Committees as they push for fairer funding and better services for rural communities.

Update – A64 Sand Hutton to Whitwell Duals resurfacing – overnight road closure 4 October

Good morning

We’re getting back in touch with an update on repairs we have been carrying out to areas of defective carriageway on the A64 between Sand Hutton and Whitwell on the Hill over the last two weekends.

We have also been renewing worn out road markings on this road and at junctions along this route.

First, we wish to thank you very much for your support and patience while we have carried this work out.

As you may be aware, this work is weather dependent and, unfortunately, the rain over the last two weekends has meant that some of this work has been delayed.

We will therefore need one further overnight closure on the night of Saturday 4 October. The closure will be in both directions of the A64 between Hopgrove and Claxton between 8pm and 6am the following morning.

We are getting in contact with residents directly affected by the closures to let them know of access arrangements.
