Eat Out to Help Out Scheme

You can use the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme at a participating establishment:

  • to get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner)
  • every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 31 August 2020
  • as many times as you like

You do not need a voucher to use this scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts. There is no minimum spend.

You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.

The discount will be automatically available to you at participating establishments. Establishments will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.

Participating establishments may include:

  • restaurants, cafés, bars or pubs
  • work and school canteens
  • food halls

All diners in a group of any size can use the discount.

Your local, The Blacksmiths Arms will be participating in the scheme every Monday and Tuesday during August.  To avoid disappointment you are advised to book in advance as places are restricted due to the current Covid restrictions.

Results of Flaxton Speeding Survey

The Speeding Survey closed on 31st July 2020

Firstly, we would like to thank villagers for taking time to respond to the Flaxton Speeding Survey.  Also to Alan and D at The Blacksmiths for allowing us to place the survey returns box in the pub foyer.

We anticipate having an agenda item to discuss the findings and agree on the next steps at the council meeting on 20th August 2020.

We had 89 responses, 57 on-line and 32 on paper survey forms.  The respondents also represented the different areas of the village.

Some additional comments were made on the paper forms regarding other speed reduction methods, such as greater camera van presence, chicanes and ‘sleeping policemen’.

You will see from the results in the table below that, in general, villagers believe strongly that there is a problem with motorists speeding through the village.

Respondents are also strongly in favour of installing Vehicle Activated Signage (VAS) to deter speeding, but there appears to be some doubt about the overall speed reductions that VAS may deliver.

NYCC Police Message Regarding Bogus Callers

North Yorkshire Police have received a number of reports over the past 5 days from Harrogate residents claiming they have been called by someone claiming to be DC Mason Greenwood, DCI Mason Mould or similar stating they have their nephew/grandson in custody with their bank cards. Fortunately residents have realised this is a scam call and have reported this matter to the police but I fear there are many who may have given over their bank details to this fraudster. Beware of these types of calls and if you are unsure as to who you are speaking to, terminate the call and dial 101 from another phone (as often the scammers will keep the line open and you may think you have called the police when in fact you are still speaking to the scammers) to check with the police. Remember the Police will NEVER ask for your bank details over the phone

North Yorkshire Community Messaging (NYCM) is managed by North Yorkshire Police.  The official website is www.nycm.co.uk which will allow you to sign into your account to change your delivery method preference or locations of interest. It also contains a FAQs section, which may assist with any queries you have.

Links and attachments:  North Yorkshire Police will only ever link you to secure web-sites we trust, we will only send you attachments where we believe it is absolutely necessary.

If you need to contact North Yorkshire Police please call 101 or in an emergency dial 999.  Alternatively please email any non urgent enquiries to:

Help at Home Project in Ryedale – Can you help?

We have had an email from Kathy @ Community Enterprise who is seeking assistance with a project she is running.

If you think you would be able to help or would like further information, please get in touch with Kathy directly.

Dear Sir/Madam

I am emailing you in the hope that you might be able to promote the ‘Help at Home’ project I am running in the Ryedale area.

I have attached a flyer that gives some information about the project and a short film.

I am actively seeking people and I offer free support to anyone who would be interested in setting up their own business or diversifying their current business to offer care and support to people in their homes – elderly/people with disabilities/people with mental health difficulties.

I currently have six people on the project, one is now delivering care and support. Please follow the link to see her ‘Beesupported’ business..  https://www.smallgoodstuff.co.uk/the-directory/search/?region=north-yorkshire

I would be very willing to have a slot in your meeting (virtually joining of course) to talk about the project and how it could create employment opportunities for your community and also meet the needs of your people who may be struggling now and possibly in the future.

Please let me know what support you can give.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you soon.
