Volunteering Opportunities at Castle Howard

Please see below from Castle Howard:

We are hoping to engage with local communities to recruit more volunteers to assist us in the house. Some of our existing volunteers are looking to gain new skills, meet new people and do something rewarding with their time, whether this be gaining confidence and being with like-minded people, to finding workplace skills in a fun way.  Volunteering is a great way to do this.  The role involves being present inside the historic rooms of the house, sharing information and stories with visitors from all over the world (full training is provided). You don’t need to be a history buff – just happy to be here and enjoying your time at Castle Howard. We are a very friendly bunch!

Volunteering suits people from all walks of life and at all stages of their career ladders. We have shift patterns that suit all levels of commitment, child care schedules and time availability. We reimburse travel expenses and also provide opportunities for socials and get togethers. More information is at the website; https://www.castlehoward.co.uk/get-involved/volunteer

Forthcoming Parish Council Elections

Subject to government approval of the order needed for the new North Yorkshire Unitary Authority (replacing Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire County Council in April 2023), there will be elections for councillors for Flaxton Parish Council in May 2022. A formal notice of election will be published later this month.

The Parish Council is responsible for, amongst other things, contributing to the planning process, managing the income of the Parish Council, addressing issues in the village (where possible) and ensuring the Parish Council is operating lawfully. Flaxton Parish council has 5 councillors, who are elected/co-opted, and a clerk who is employed. The councillors appointed in May 2022 will serve a 5 year term of office. There is one meeting a month with associated reading beforehand.

If you are interested in finding out more about what’s involved in being a councillor please contact an existing councillor using the contact details on the website. If you would like to know more about eligibility or the election process then please contact the clerk:
