North Yorkshire Welfare Voluntary Scheme – Recruiting New Volunteers
RECRUITMENT NEEDED FOR NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL RUN WINTER WELFARE VOLUNTARY SCHEME
With the rise in the number of Covid cases nationally and locally, the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum has escalated its response and we are once again having weekly silver officer Tactical Coordination Group and gold officer Strategic Coordination Group meetings (held virtually online), with limited officers based at the Multi-Agency Control Centre in Northallerton.
It is becoming apparent that the Covid response will be continuing throughout this winter period and therefore there will likely be a need to support the most vulnerable during this time.
In North Yorkshire the supporting role for those shielding and the most vulnerable will continue to be taken on by the local Community Support Organisation hubs across the area, with County Council providing support at weekends and where needed during the week as well.
Due to the potential longevity of this scheme, it has been decided to create a dedicated voluntary group under the banner of “Team North Yorkshire” which is specifically looking at providing this welfare role over the months ahead.
This new scheme run by North Yorkshire County Council and will be looking at continuing the work that was started during national lockdown earlier this year. The roles required will include:
- Door knocking to check on shielded individuals who are not answering the phone.
- Collecting shopping and/or prescriptions for shielded individuals.
- Other miscellaneous tasks that might be required for shielded individuals.
This new county council scheme will be run via an app which can be downloaded for free. If there are tasks that are required in your area then the app will alert you and you can choose to accept it or not. If you are interested in signing up then please reply and let us know. We will then pass on further details including how to download the app and join the scheme. Don’t worry, if you don’t have a smart phone, you can still volunteer.
City of York are currently looking at how best to support the Community Support Organisations within their area and whether they need a similar level of support over the winter period.
Ready For Anything will be used for concurrent incidents, such as flooding, and emergencies requiring rest centres, and any other tasks that might be required by the other agencies within the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum as part of the pandemic response in the months ahead.
