Flaxton Village Hall

Flaxton Village Hall first opened on 10th October 1928.

You can read more about the story of the Hall which has been derived from a handwritten minute book and supporting information found in other archive materials.

There is an abridged version which summarises the story of the Village Hall but does not provide the transcribed minutes The Flaxton Village Hall Story Summary.

Message from the Flaxton Community Hall Trustees

As you are no doubt aware, the village hall is nearing the end of its useful life, and the trustees are looking at how it can be replaced. We have a very active Building Planning Group who are looking into all aspects that need to be considered in order to accomplish this major task.

One of the very many tasks is to determine the cost of demolishing the current hall, and clearing the site ready for the new build, and it is a legal requirement to have an appropriate asbestos survey before demolition or major works.

The initial asbestos survey commissioned by the trustees, on the 7th March 2024 found that the Village Hall is safe to use, but the survey was not detailed enough to get a firm quote from a demolition contractor, which the Building Planning Group need.

As a result, on the 4th of October, AMC asbestos a UKAS registered environmental consultancy from Elvington, performed an intrusive survey and we have been assured again that and I quote:

“the hall is perfectly safe for public use”.

This second report will enable us to get a quotation for demolition, so please carry on using the hall, and help us to replace it in due course.
