Request for help from North Yorkshire Police

The Parish Council have recently received the following request from North Yorkshire Police – can you help?

We hope you can help us? North Yorkshire Police are trying to identify the number and location of illegal off road motoring incidents that are taking place. These usually involve trials bikes or quad bikes being ridden on land that they do not have permission to go onto. In many cases this is done for fun and as sport, in some cases there may be links to crime, the bikes may be stolen etc. It is a complex issue to deal with effectively, due to the difficulties in apprehending those involved, however in some cases you may know who it is or be able to obtain a registration plate. We are aware that many instances do not get reported and without such information it is difficult to identify in which areas to focus our patrols and days of action to try and combat the problem.

This is therefore a request that these instances are called in on 101, or if no longer taking place then emailed to  . This will better inform us where to concentrate efforts to deal with the issue.

Many thanks for your help, North Yorkshire Police

Results of Flaxton Speeding Survey

The Speeding Survey closed on 31st July 2020

Firstly, we would like to thank villagers for taking time to respond to the Flaxton Speeding Survey.  Also to Alan and D at The Blacksmiths for allowing us to place the survey returns box in the pub foyer.

We anticipate having an agenda item to discuss the findings and agree on the next steps at the council meeting on 20th August 2020.

We had 89 responses, 57 on-line and 32 on paper survey forms.  The respondents also represented the different areas of the village.

Some additional comments were made on the paper forms regarding other speed reduction methods, such as greater camera van presence, chicanes and ‘sleeping policemen’.

You will see from the results in the table below that, in general, villagers believe strongly that there is a problem with motorists speeding through the village.

Respondents are also strongly in favour of installing Vehicle Activated Signage (VAS) to deter speeding, but there appears to be some doubt about the overall speed reductions that VAS may deliver.

NYCC Police Message Regarding Bogus Callers

North Yorkshire Police have received a number of reports over the past 5 days from Harrogate residents claiming they have been called by someone claiming to be DC Mason Greenwood, DCI Mason Mould or similar stating they have their nephew/grandson in custody with their bank cards. Fortunately residents have realised this is a scam call and have reported this matter to the police but I fear there are many who may have given over their bank details to this fraudster. Beware of these types of calls and if you are unsure as to who you are speaking to, terminate the call and dial 101 from another phone (as often the scammers will keep the line open and you may think you have called the police when in fact you are still speaking to the scammers) to check with the police. Remember the Police will NEVER ask for your bank details over the phone

North Yorkshire Community Messaging (NYCM) is managed by North Yorkshire Police.  The official website is www.nycm.co.uk which will allow you to sign into your account to change your delivery method preference or locations of interest. It also contains a FAQs section, which may assist with any queries you have.
